The holding company RT-Chemcomposite launches production of structures for the MS-21 aircraft flight tests
07.09.2015The holding company RT-Chemcomposite, a member of the state corporation ROSTEC, launched the production of polymer composite tail-plane elements for flight tests of “Long-haul aircraft of the 21st century” - MS-21. The solemn ceremony devoted to the significant for national aircraft industry event took place at the holding company’s leading enterprise ORPE Technologiya.
The MS-21 aircraft is a unique project for Russia involving development and introduction of innovative technologies, as the percentage of composite structures in this airliner is from 30% to 40%. Furthermore it should be noted that engineers set higher requirements for strength properties of polymer composite products, than of ones made from traditional materials (by 20-30%). Only a few competence centers in the world are able to produce large-sized polymer composite structures in accordance with quality and strength properties requirements. One of them is a part of RT-Chemcomposite.
Within the framework of cooperation in the aircraft production the specialists of the holding company RT-Chemcomposite have developed the production technology of polymer composite parts for fin and tail-plane torsion boxes. Its distinguishing feature is the large-scale implementation of the automatically controlled operations. In the course of the works the Obninsk Enterprise of the holding company has produced and delivered more than 4000 samples and fragments for a tail-plane. The product assembled from Obninsk components at the enterprise Aviastar-SP successfully passed the dynamic tests in TSAGI (Central Institute of Aerohydrodynamics). The production startup of the structures for the flight tests, held on 7 September at ORPE Technologiya, marked the beginning of the final stage of the unique aircraft skyward.
“Scientific groundwork collected from the work on such significant projects as the shuttle spacecraft system Buran or the Large Hadron Collider is applied in the modern developments forming the basis of the home aerospace industry power. It is the continuous progress in science and technology that lets us be the industry leaders,” Director General of ORPE Technologiya Oleg Komissar commented.
“The achievements of the Enterprise specialists are based on more than half a century experience of the staff in developing and manufacturing materials forming the technological basis of the future. The employees develop a wide range of high technology products with the properties, which cannot be implemented using traditional materials,” Director General of the holding company RT-Chemcomposite Kirill Shubsky said.
